Alistair Gow

Alistair Gow is a Glasgow-based artist working primarily with printmaking. His practice is rooted in a deep engagement with process, craft, and the collaborative ethos of the print studio. Through his work, Gow explores the quiet potential held in transient and often overlooked spaces — blank billboards, open roads, vacant walls — recurring motifs that suggest both promise and uncertainty.

Winner of the BBA Art Award at Woolwich Contemporary Print Fair London 2024, Gow's elusive compositions capture fragile moments of encounter and dissolution. His images, often dreamlike and refracted, evoke the instability of perception and the ephemeral nature of experience. These are not portraits, but rather presences — figures and forms suspended in moments of quiet tension, caught somewhere between intimacy and estrangement.

Gow graduated with a BA (Hons) in Painting and Printmaking from the Glasgow School of Art in 2010. Since 2014, he has worked at Glasgow Print Studio, specialising in intaglio and relief printing. In addition to his own artistic practice, he collaborates with other artists to create print editions, teaches printmaking techniques, and supports the studio’s vibrant membership.

His work resonates with the core ethos of BBA Gallery, which is committed to discovering and supporting emerging contemporary artists whose work pushes boundaries and engages deeply with material and concept alike. Gow's practice exemplifies this spirit — a compelling blend of technical mastery and poetic sensibility.
