24-karat gold leaf on industrial polystyrene form

Description

15,4 x 8 cm

Variable edition 3 of 8

The work treats industrial packaging as archaeological artifacts of the present. The forms are collected, ordered, and situated within an art-historical framework. In this approach, they appear as anonymous findings that reveal a formal kinship with golden objects of earlier cultures. The objects remain entirely unchanged in shape, cleaned and preserved without alteration.

The aesthetic operation lies in gilding and classification. Each object is gilded using a specially developed oil-gilding technique with 24-karat gold leaf, applied continuously and without visible leaf joints, resulting in a closed, seamless gold surface. The gold establishes the connection to earlier traditions of form and renders the continuity of form across epochs legible.

The work understands form as part of an ongoing tradition of form that operates across time. Traditional gilding, museum-grade; presented in the context of Japanese Shinto shrines and Buddhist temples, as well as the Goldmuseum Schwabach.
