The BBA Gallery in Berlin is delighted to announce Surreal Urbanities: Reimagined Realities, a groundbreaking exhibition curated by Mario Bermel, a distinguished Jury Member of the BBA Artist Prize 2024. This captivating exhibition brings together five extraordinary artists selected from the BBA Artist Prize 2024 finalists, each offering a unique perspective that bridges the realms of surrealism and urban reality, creating a dynamic and immersive visual experience.
In the section dedicated to surreal realities, Anikó Boda and Nogang Lee invite us to explore the depths of imagination and fantasy. Hungarian painter Anikó Boda's intricate dreamscapes blend the familiar with the fantastical, creating a mesmerising world where boundaries blur and new possibilities emerge. South Korean painter Nogang Lee's vibrant and whimsical works transport us to surreal landscapes and sceneries that defy logic and invite us to lose ourselves in their otherworldly charm.
Contrasting these surreal explorations, the urban and real life section features the compelling works of Trevor Burgess, Benet Dalmau Alsina, and Luke Wateridge. British painter Trevor Burgess captures the essence of city life with a poignant and expressive touch, portraying urban scenes that reflect the complexity and vitality of modern existence. Spanish painter Benet Dalmau Alsina offers a raw and authentic perspective on urban environments, highlighting the beauty in everyday moments and the interplay of light and shadow in cityscapes. British photographer Luke Wateridge's striking images document the gritty reality and hidden beauty of urban spaces, revealing the intricate tapestry of human life within the city.
Curated by Mario Bermel, Surreal Urbanities: Reimagined Realities invites visitors to engage with the interplay between the fantastical and the real. The exhibition challenges us to see the world through multiple lenses, offering a rich and varied narrative that speaks to the complexity of human experience. By juxtaposing the surreal with the urban, the exhibition creates a dialogue that is both thought-provoking and visually stunning.
