About
Verena Bachl is a contemporary artist based in Berlin, Germany. Drawing inspiration from both mythology and science, Verena Bachl creates sculptures and installations that combine archetypal symbolism and intimate elements with objects and methods of industrial mass production. Light installations immerse her sculptural works in a synthetic atmosphere reminiscent of their natural model, while an approach to the work reveals hidden meaning and a shift in perspective.
In her artistic process, Bachl works with mixed techniques and uses various media, ranging from fluorescent tubes and displays to pills and radioactive stones. Light, in particular, plays a pivotal role in her artistic practice. In terms of optics, she uses it ephemerally by splitting it into its spectrum, reflecting it on metallic surfaces, or metaphorically using it as an indicator to shed light on specific topics and thus drag them into the light of day.
Her work illuminates pressing contemporary issues and challenges stereotypes by creating a speculative scenography for her combinations of figurative representation, minimalistic form and technological implementation with contrasting textures of metal, glass, and stone.
