The Bible is filled with stories that have been altered and rewritten over centuries, primarily by men who held interpretative authority in the Catholic Church. Imagine if the evangelists had told us about a daughter, not a son, of God — our world would likely be different today.

"It’s a girl" plays with the idea that everything could have been different. The work features an image of Mary in the classic Neo-Gothic style. Unlike historical depictions, Mary is shown with a finger to her lips, suggesting she has a secret to reveal. The obvious fact that the divine child is depicted as female highlights the contradiction between Christian teachings and the role of women in modern times. This ancient perspective on the theological story of Jesus' birth is visually disrupted by an internal display, blurring the lines between imagination and memory.
