The solo exhibition State of Play presents the work of Thai abstract artist Thanaghone Wattanasiritham, professionally known as Ghone.

Bringing a remarkably young, instinctive voice from South East Asia to Berlin, this exhibition centers on the philosophy that play is an ongoing process. Coinciding with the start of the summer holidays, State of Play demonstrates that Ghone’s artistic practice is not a chore, but a profound state of play.

This collection serves as a reminder that the creative impulse is an inherent human rhythm—one that exists before formal education and remains vital throughout life. Ghone’s practice is defined by a lack of traditional academic constraints. Operating without formal training, his work relies entirely on pure intuition, reflected in steady brushwork and a sophisticated handling of form. The exhibition poses a compelling question to the viewer: What can we, as adults, relearn from the uninhibited world-building of childhood? Furthermore, State of Play highlights a tactile, experimental approach to abstraction.

Bypassing standard artistic kits, Ghone reaches for tools within his everyday environment—toys, sponges, and organic materials. By rolling, stamping, and tilting the canvas, he creates rich, layered textures where every movement holds a unique, unscripted story. Ultimately, State of Play celebrates a fusion of location, background, and generation, bridging raw talent and global contemporary art discourse.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Ghone (b. 2022, Bangkok, Thailand) is an abstract artist based in Thailand. Working with intuitive visual language, his practice focuses on expressive gestures, vibrant colour palettes, and the exploration of texture, movement, and form.

Operating without sketches or predetermined concepts, Ghone approaches each canvas as a direct response to immediate surroundings, emotions, music, and daily experiences. His work has been exhibited internationally and is included in private collections across Asia and Europe.

To date, Ghone has presented four solo exhibitions and participated in group shows in London, Beijing, and Berlin (August 2026). His recognitions include the Laureate Gold Medal at the Beijing International Children's Art Exhibition (2025), a Certificate of Artistic Merit from the Luxembourg Art Prize (2025), the Champion Prize at the International Young Painting Art Competition (2025), and an Honorable Mention at the Abstract International Art Competition, USA (2024). He is a registered artist with Thailand's Office of Contemporary Art and Culture (OCAC).

State of Play marks Ghone’s first solo exhibition in Germany, presenting a body of work centered on the themes of curiosity, freedom, and imagination within contemporary abstract painting.
