Inspired by a visit to the Thai Jurassic Museum, Asteroid Falling Down to Earth captures Ghone's fascination with the prehistoric world and the powerful forces that have shaped our planet. After learning about the asteroid impact believed to have contributed to the extinction of the dinosaurs, "asteroid" quickly became one of Ghone's favorite new words. He eagerly watched videos of asteroids and comets colliding with Earth and enthusiastically shared his discoveries with his teachers and family.
This artwork marks an important milestone in Ghone's artistic journey. For the very first time, he independently asked to use masking tape as part of his creative process. He carefully placed the tape across the canvas, arranged and attached broken toys and small objects by himself, then selected his own color palette before painting around and over the objects with brushes. Once the tape was removed, hidden shapes and dynamic lines emerged, becoming part of the final composition.
The painting imagines a giant asteroid crashing onto Earth, striking both land and sea. The collision unleashes molten lava, explosive energy, and dramatic movement, while layers of vibrant color express the transformation of destruction into the beginning of a new world. The embedded objects create a tactile surface, inviting viewers to explore the artwork beyond paint alone.
Created over nearly two weeks, Asteroid Falling Down to Earth reflects Ghone's growing curiosity, experimentation with mixed media, and fearless approach to discovering new artistic techniques. It is a celebration of childhood imagination, scientific wonder, and the joy of transforming everyday materials into a powerful visual story.
